Use: BPH No SE of decreased libido Takes up to 8 wks to see benefits CI/DI: other BPH meds, blood thinners SE: HA
Saw Palmetto
Use: improve cognition, dementia (vascular may help slow progression), pain r/t PAD
SE: minimal, HA, dizziness, nausea
Do not need to get naturally - raw or cook seeds are poisonous
Drug Interactions: NSAIDS, antiplatelet, antidepressants, DM, garlic, saw palmetto, risk of bleeding
Ginkgo

CI if osteoporosis, arthritis, blood thinner, etc
Often not covered by insurance, however DO and PT can often provide spinal manipulation and is covered by insurance.

Milk Thistle
Use: high cholesterol, T2DM, asthma, breast pain, menopause, HTN
Contains isoflavones which change to phytoestrogens (similar to endogenous estrogen) questions about safety
May cause hyperplasia of uterus→ uterine cancer
Safe if Breast CA to eat foods, but not supplements
Some people are allergic
SE; GI upset
