Ventral midline
What organs are unable to be exteriorized?
Stomach, duodenum, distal ileum, base of cecum, distal RDC, transverse colon, terminal small colon
What are four things you evaluate when performing an exploratory celiotomy?
Loss of negative pressure
Smell
Excessive/abnormal fluid
Note positioning of bowel/excessive gas
Where does exploration in a celiotomy begin?
At the cecum –> SI –> Duodenum –> Colon
What is the duodenum fixed to the transverse colon by?
Duodenuocolic ligament
What should be done before closing the abdomen?
SPONGE COUNT
What is the most common closing pattern for an exploratory celiotomy?
Short burst simple continuous
What should be given immediately post-op?
Tetanus prophylaxis
