Should everyone with IBS be screened for coellic disease?
Yes
Coeliac testing is a low threshold test. What must you be doing to have the blood test?
Eating a gluten containing diet.
How is coeliac disease diagnosed?
Serology
Biopsy (not kids)
What is a gluten free diet?
Complete avoidance of all wheat, barley and rye but you can and should eat oats. This will reverse villous atrophy
Who can get gluten free foods on prescription?
Anyone with a confirmed diagnosis of coeliac disease or Dermatitis Herpetiformis. Provede 15% of staple carbohydrate. Spend units on a monthly basis
You get a different number of units of prescribed gluten free food depending on your age and sex. Do you get more if pregnant or breast feeding?
Yes
