4 steps to form a spit?
A
- Longshore drift transports sand and shingle past the bend and deposits it in the sea
- Strong winds and waves can curve the end of the spit (recurved end)
- The sheltered area bending the spit is protected from the waves and lots of material is built up here which means plants can grow here
- Overtime this area can become a salt marsh or mud flat

- A bar is formed when a spit joins two headlands together (Slapton in Devon)
- The bar cuted of the bay from the sea
