Unknown
- Accepted theory is smooth muscle hyperactivity in superficial temporal artery

Symptoms of a cluster headache?
A
UNILATERAL severe pain
- Orbital/temporal
- Rapid onset
- Short duration (15-300 mins)
Ipsilateral autonomic symptoms on affected side
- Sweating
- Tearing
- Nasal productions
- Red eye
Aura

DDx of clusters?
A
- Migraine
- Paroxysmal hemicrania
- SUNCT
All usually distinguished by length of attack

Primary

What tests should be done for a cluster headache?
A
Can MRI but costly
Usually just diagnose from history

What treatment should be given to abort a headache?
A
Sumatriptan
100% oxygen for 15 mins

What treatment can be given to abort a bout of headaches?
A
Domperidone injection in occipital area on same affected side in severe cases
Tapering prednisolone course
