A

Normal in GI tract

Can cause myonecrosis.

Spores introduced to tissue…toxins destroy cells….fermentation of tissue yields gas…gas accumulates and causes crepitus

Gas gangrene

Needs dead tissue or excess nutrients to grow

Virulence factors of clostrium perfringens

A

ASlpha toxin (lecithinase) that degrades lecithin in cell membranes
Thewta toxin lyses RBCs
Hyaluronidase and Dnase
Spores germinate in low Redox potential

Tetanospasmin binds peripheral nerve terminals...transported within axon to CNS>..cleaves synaptobrevin 2
