psychosomatic symptoms

inter-rater reliability
when there are more than one clinician reviewing the patient, allows cross-checking and improves reliability and validity of the diagnosis
descriptive validity
when patients of the same diagnosis exhibit similar symptoms
Aetiological validity
when patients of same diagnosis share similar causal factors
Concurrent validity
clinician uses more than one method to reach a diagnosis, and both methods lead to same result
Predictive validity
how well a diagnosis predicts future behaviour / outcome (good = effective treatment)

produced by WHO.
includes both physical and mental disorders.
Current version is ICD-10 and ICD-11
classification system
a checklist of signs and symptoms which helps a clinician to reach a diagnosis of a specific disorder, often by process of elimination

the process of matching a person’s behaviours, cognitions, feelings and desires to the signs and symptoms of a recognised mental disorder in order to provide information about prognosis and treatment
deviance
behaviours, cognitions, feelings and desires which are extreme, unusual or bizarre and which differ from social and statistical norms
dysfunction
inability to conduct everyday activities
distress
the subjective experience of feeling upset and/or anxious
danger
at risk of causing physical or psychological harm to the self or others
