Q

Physical causes of climate change - earths orbit

A

As the earths cycle changes, so does the planets distance from the sun. This means the planter heats up when closer and cools down when further away.

Also the planet faces the sun when it wobbles meaning some areas get more heat energy than others.

Q

Physical causes of climate change - volcanic activity

A

If a volcano erups, Carbon dioxide will be released which warms up the planet because either is a greenhouse gas. Also the ash released could cause a global winter because no sun light can get in.

Q

Physical causes of climate change - sun spots

A

Changes in solar activity over time can increase or decrease global temperatures.

Sun spots appear every 11 years and are higher radiation releases from the sun that appear as dark patches. The sunspots heat up the planet because more heat energy is being released from the sun and revieved by Earth.

Q

Physical causes of climate change - meteorite impact

A

The impact of a meteor can affect climate change because gases, dust and particles are ejected into the atmosphere. They block sunlight causing ahlobal winter.

Q

Human causes of climate change - deforestation

A

Reduces the effectiveness of the carbon sink as the process of photosynthesis is reduced because less trees take in co2 and produce less oxygen.

As the trees are cut down the carbon escapes.

Q

Human causes of climate change - agriculture

A

When cows are killed , methane is released which is a greenhouse gas and is released into the atmosphere which heats up the planet. Due to the increase of demand for meat more methane is being released as animals are killed.

Also paddy fields -

Q

Human causes of climate change - burning fossil fuels

A

The burning of fossil fuels for energy produces carbon dioxide which leads to global warming, and the greenhouse gas effect.

Q

Human causes of climate change - car exhausts

A

Car exhausts produce nitrous oxide which increases the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Q

Human causes of climate change - CFCs

A

CFC’s found in fridges etc contribute to global warming as they destroy the ozone layer.

Q

Impacts of climate change - local

Scotland

A

Pests and disease as temperatures rise the climate will be suitable for disease carriers.

Soil

Agricultural and climate

Natural environment

Water

Flooding

Coasts - as sea levels rise the coasts are covered up with sea water

People

Cultural heritage and identity

Q

Physical Causes of climate change - ice melting

A

As the ice melts, less sun rays are reflected by the white ice and more sun trays are taken in by the darker water. This heats uo the water and increases climate change.

Q

Impacts of climate change - national

A

Increased temperatures means more snow melting off mountains.

Increased rainfall means more flooding in areas

Decreased snowfall

As the snow melts from mountains the sea levels rise. This means less land area.

Q

Impacts of climate change- global

A

The weather around the world is changing and natural disasters are occurring more frequently.
Some countries are becoming colder and some warmer.

As the sea levels rise there is less land to grow crops on.

Less crops due to climate change weather means more world famine.

Q

Climate change management strategies

A

World wide afforestation Us when the countries plant more trees to increase the carbon sink.

Reduce reuse recycle will reduce climate change because less is needed to be made so less greenhouse gases are given off.

Carbon credit scheme is when companies are only allowed to produce a certain amount of Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

Carbon tax - charges fossil fuel users money on the amount of greenhkuse gases released into the air. This will help prevent climate change because less gases will be produced.

Ban on CFC’S- helps prevent further damage to the ozone layer

Invest in renewable energy to have clearer energy to use instead of fossil fuels

Eat locally sourced food to reduce distance the food is needed to be transported.

Public transport to reduce the amount of cars on the roads.

Q

Effects of climate change

A

Rising sea levels because the snow from mountains us melting.

Loss or gain of crops because climates are changing so some climates can now grow crops they couldn’t before.

Flooding because sea levels are rising.

Damage to coral reefs

Loss of biodiversity

Famine

Loss if biodiversity - animals cant adapt quickly enough for the changes in their climate and are therefore dying because they are unable to survive in the new climates.

Melting ice caps

Spread of pests and disease

More extreme weather

Higher temperatures and more heat waves

17
Q

Human causes of climate change - landfill

A

Decomposing rubbish releases methane gas.
