4 main aetiologies of claw disease
A
- trauma
- neoplasia
- paronychia (inflammation of nail fold, can be due to bacteria/funghi with immunosuppression or autoimmune esp. pemphigus folaceous in cats)
- symetrical lupoid (to do with keratinocytes) onychodystrophy or lupoid onychitis (not uncommon, dogs, sloughed claws + regrowth of brittle, cracked, short claws, multiple feet, no other skin dsiease. Histo: interface dermatits at junction of clawbed and underlying dermis)

Dx of symetrical lupoid onychodystrophy?
A
- ampputation of P3 + histopath
- OR trial tx with oxytet/nicotinamide
