Classification Flashcards
What are ferns?
Non - flowering plant Stem-like root-rizome Phloem Xylem Reproduce by spores
What do phloem vessels do in ferns?
Transport sap from places where it is stored or needed
What do xylem vessels do in ferns?
Transport water and mineral ions from the roots to the rest of the plant
What are flowering plants?
They are multicellular Contain chloroplasts and chlorophyll Stem roots and leaves Xylem vessels Phloem vessels
What do xylem vessels do in flowering plants?
Take water and dissolved minerals from roots to other organs
What do phloem vessels do on flowering plants
Transport dissolved food and biological molecules from places of high concentration to places of low concentration
What do non flowering plants have?
Shoot, above ground Stem-leaves, buds, flowers Apical bud-the plant grows new leaves , lengthens stem Stem-vascular tissues (xylem, phloem) Roots-absorbs water and minerals
What are the two types of flowering plants?
Dicots (dicolyledons)
Monocots (monocotyledons)
What are dicots?
Two cotyledon
Flower parts in fours/fives or multiples of these
Leaf veins form a net patten
Vascular bundles arranged in a ring
What are monocots?
One cotyledon
Flower parts in threes or multiples of this
Leaf veins parallel
Vascular bundles scar
What are the types of plants?
Mosses and liverworts
Conifers
