What is the APFC for Robber’s cave?
Sherif
Aim- Ingroup formation, prejudice

Evaluate the contemporary study
Reicher and Haslam
Sample 15 men of diverse age, race, and social class
Method Standardised procedure with 3 planned interventions
Method Triangulated data collection used 3 types of data collection. Questionnaires, Videos, cortisol swabs
Conclusion The study concluded that people will readily accept extreme solutions made by others if there’s no social structure
Conclusion The study has a high amount of internal validity and reliability however, the study was conducted in an artificial environment so there was lowered external validity
Evaluate the classic study
Robber’s Cave Study
Sample The sample was 11-year-old, middle-class protestant boys The sample was ethnocentric, the conclusions of the study cannot be applied to people of other races
The sample was androcentric, and the conclusions of the study cannot be applied to women, women may have different causes of prejudice
Method The boys had shown prejudicial behaviours before the friction phase (Competitions) This lowers the reliability of the study as this disapproves the idea that prejudice is due to limited resources
Method The boys had indicated that they knew they ere being recorded This could have led to demand characteristics which could’ve lowered the internal validity and reliability of the experiment.
Results The study concluded that conflict had occurred due to limited resources This has application to racial prejudice
Conclusion The study had a good methodology and procedure however the study had a low reliability
