  • without touching the skin surface, hold bottle tip or dropper above ear canal and have client tilt head toward unaffected side.
  • infants/children under 3 years: pull pinna down and back
  • adults and children over 3 years: pull pinna up and back to straighten ear canal
  • client should remain side-lying 5 min, gentle pressure to tragus

  • client tilts head back
  • place tip of the bottle just inside the nares, aimed toward midline of nose
  • squeeze bottle for correct dose while patient inhales
  • ask them to maintain position for 1-2 mins

need to prime it if it hasn’t been used in a while or new. some you need to shake (hold top). 30 sec-1min before another puff, 5 mins if getting another medication
