What happened during the Montgomery Bus Boycott?
Cause: Rosa Parks refused to move for a white man on a bus.
Event: African Americans went on a boycott of the buses. This went on for 381 days. The bus company lost a lot of money.
Consequence: Alabama declared segregation laws on buses unconstitutional (against the founding laws of the US)

What happened during the Little Rock High School event?
Cause: Brown vs Board of Education (1954) stated that segregation in schools was unconstitutional
Event: Nine African American students were stopped by the National Guard from entering the school. President Eisenhower sent in troops from the national army to help these students get into school.
Consequence: The school closed for a year after and eventually re-opened. Desegregated.

Role of MLK - Montgomery Bus Boycott
During the Montgomery Bus Boycott MLK was a young leader who spoke to the people of Montgomery just 4 days after Rosa Parks was arrested. He urged them to continue campaigning until they had achieved their goal.
Role of MLK - Birmingham Riots
MLK organised the first set of Birmingham riots until he was arrested and sent to jail. From jail he wrote a letter which pointed to the religious leaders and white Americans that sat on the sidelines while others like MLK risked it all. It urged people to get behind the cause but to do so in non violent protests
Role of MLK - March on Washington
MLK both organised the March on Washington and spoke at it. His famous ‘i have a dream’ speech united people while showing them what the Civil Rights movement was about.
