CIS Lesions Part 3 Flashcards

Subarachnoid hemorrhage key symptom?
thunderclap headache (abrupt onset) –> usually die after
worst headache of life
A mass in the parietal region would likely be?
Subdural hematoma

ACA thrombosis:
Hits all the major parts of frontal lobe
- speech
- motor (leg problems)
Vertebrobasilar insufficiency is a temporary set of symptoms due to decreased blood flow (ischemia) in the posterior circulation of the brain.
In this case, a biker got in a crash and had a cervicomandibular fracture, which led to paralysis + numbness in extremities from this
What do you have when it seems like every possible tract is on there?
Infarct of the internal capsule (opp. of problems – right)
- left hemianalgesia/pain decrease
- left body no proprioception
- left UMN
- can’t smile left face
- left eye problem
What is the key finding in frontal lobe syndrome?
They are unable to smell
-also, their daily habits are off + hygiene problems
Forgetfullness + Impaired Judgement
Disorientation in time and place
Alzheimers
Neglect of Body Scheme secondary to a parietal lobe tumor causes what symptoms?
Behavior is “off”
-can’t find front door, body position weird, don’t put on all your clothes, can’t draw
What symptoms would a temporal lobe tumor produce?

Bilateral Internuclear Ophthalmoplegia Sx’s:

A kid presents w/ flu symptoms + postive Romberg and wide-based gait ataxia:
Medulloblastoma of 4th ventricle
(most common brain tumor in kids)

A medulloblastoma in adults is likely in:
The cerebellum
kids = medulla
Poorly nurished + confused individual
Broad ataxia gait
Clumsiness + difficulty walking
Alcohol Degeneration of brain–> chronic ingestion of alcohol can cause cortical atrophy of cerebellum
Korsakoff’s Syndrome

Tremor
Shuffiling gait
Rigitity of limbs
Masked facial expression
Parkinson’s Disease
Substansia nigra die

Sudden jerky movements
Facial grimmicing
Dementia
Huntington’s Chorea (dance)

What are the principal areas of Huntingtons degeneration?
Corpus striatum and the cerebral cortex
Involuntary violent flinging movements
Hemiballism
If you see subthalamic nuclei think _______.
Hemiballisum
