Circulatory System Flashcards
Artrioventricular Valves
valves between atria and ventricles. Right AV valve and left AV valve
Chordae Tendonae
tendonous chords from tip of valve to protuberance of wall of ventricle. Makes valve one-way
Semilunar Valves
pulmonary valve and aortic valve. Do not need chordae tendonae. Where blood exits the heart
What separates the left atrium from the right atrium?
interatrial septum
What separates the left ventricle from the right ventricle?
interventricular septum
Which ventricle is thicker?
left
Branches of the aortic arch
- brachiocephalic trunk
2. left subclavian artery
Subclavian arteries
take blood to forelimbs
Common Carotid Arteries
take blood to head
Branches off the Brachiocephalic Trunk
- left common carotid artery
- right common carotid artery
- right subclavian artery
What are the three passageways through the diaphragm
- aortic hiatus
- esophageal hiatus
- caval foramen
Aortic Hiatus
dorsal passageway between the crura for the aorta, the azygous vein, and the thoracic duct
Esophageal Hiatus
muscular part of the right crus and transmits the esophagus, vagal nerve trunks, and esophageal vessels
Caval Foramen
at the junction of the tendinous and muscular parts of the right side of the diaphragm. Caudal vena cava passes through it.
Unpaired Vessels coming off the aorta
- celiac artery
- cranial mesenteric artery
- caudal mesenteric artery.
They run through the visceral (GI) system and have drainage back to liver. Blood channeled through portal system
