Chromosomes and Cell Division Flashcards
What are telomeres?
The tips of the arms on a chromosome.
What is more compacted, Euchromatin or Heterochromatin?
Heterochromatin.
Is Euchromatin or Heterochromatin used to code?
Euchromatin
What is more darker in appearance, Euchromatin or Heterochromatin?
Heterochromatin
What are Nucleosomes?
DNA strands wrapped around histone proteins
What do Nucleosomes form?
Chromatin fibres
What do chromatin fibres form?
The chromosome
What stages does mitosis happen in?
Interphase Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase Cytokinesis
What happens in Prophase?
Chromosomes become visible and spindle fibres appear
What happens in Metaphase?
Chromosomes align at equator and spindle fibres attach to centromeres
What happens in Anaphase?
Chromatids seperate at centromere and move to opposite ends of cell
What happens in Telophase?
New nuclear membranes form
What happens in Cytokinesis?
Cytoplasm seperates and 2 new cells are formed
