Acute inflammation Flashcards
What vessel radius/flow changes take place in acute inflammation?
Transient Arteriolar constriction
Local Arteriolar Dilation
Relaxation of smooth muscle in vessels
Increase of local blood flow
What vessel permeability changes take place in acute inflammation?
Endothelial leak produced by local chemical mediators
Exudation of plasma and proteins such as fibrinogen and immunoglobulin
Odema- swelling, which reduces function and causes pain
What do neutrophils do as they move from vessel to the extravascular space?
Move to endothelial aspect of lumen-margination
Adhere to endothelia- pavementing
Squeeze between endothelia to outside tissue- Emigration
What do fibroblasts do in acute inflammation?
In granulation tissue- lay down collagen to repair damage. Scar
What do Eicosanoids do?
Synthesis Prostaglandins. Encourage inflammation
