Procedure
A
- 425 undergrad students participated
- Took a questionnaire that asked how much participants agreed with the statements on a scale from 1 to 10
- Many of my friends have a better life than me
- Many of my friends are happier than me
- Life is fair
- Questionnaire also included Facebook use, religion, marital status, social life

Findings
A
- The more time they were currently using Facebook (per week), the more they perceived others as happier
- Participants who used Facebook longer were more likely to believe that others were happier, had a better life and that life was unfair
- Participants who had more friends on Facebook were more likely to perceive others as happier and see life as unfair
- Participants who spend more time with their friends in person are more likely to see life as fair
- Supports the argument that Facebook use affects people’s perceptions of others
- Demontatertes availability heuristic
- Demonstrates correspondence bias
- Can be both positive/negative

Strengths
A
- High ecological validity: An artificial situation was not created, study was base on their “natural” Facebook use

Limitations
A
- Sampling bias: Only undergrad students were used, technology use could have in impact on their results

Ethical considerations
A
- Protection from ham - could have been sensitive issue for some students, might have been difficult to admit that they thought their lives were worse than peers
