Signs + symptoms
Can’t speak/cough properly
Difficulty breathing, wheezing
Patient raises hands to their throat
Cyanosis
May became unconscious
Conscious adult/child
Ask if they are choking
Explain what you’re going to do
Stand to the side of the victim with your feet + support chest w/ your hand
Give 5 back blows
If back blows are unsuccessful, give abdominal thrusts
Abdominal thrust
Stand behind victim
Place 1 foot between their feet
Make a fist with 1 hand + turn thumb side into their navel
Reach around patient + place other hand on top with palm side down
Preform abdominal thrusts
Alternate between 5 back slaps + 5 abdominal thrusts
Unconscious infant
Hold infant on 1 arm with the face down with their head in your palm
With the heel of your other hand give 5 back blows
Turn over + give 5 chest thrusts w/ 2 fingers
Monitor to see if object is dispelled
Continue until object is dislodged/baby is unconscious
On pregnant/obese patient instead of abdominal thrusts
