what is DMDD?
disruptive mood dysregulation disorder - chronic, severe, persistent irritability
what are the 3 domains of ADHD?
- inattention
- hyperactivity
- impulsivity
what is the age of onset and duration for ADHD?
- onset before age 12
- 6 month duration and in 2 or more settings
how do you differentiate learning disability vs ADHD?
- learning disability: difficulty in 1 or 2 areas
- ADHD: difficulty in multiple areas
what are the common side effects of ADHD treatment - stimulants? what should be monitored?
- GI
- decreased appetite
- initial insomnia
- headaches
- possible rebound symptom
- psychosis
- monitor vitals including BP and pulse
what is the first line ADHD medication?
methylphenidate products
what is done about rebound ADHD? (2 types of medication)
- short acting immediate release agent
- a2 agonists (clonidine)
what is the only non-stimulant FDA approved medication for ADHD?
atomoxitine
what is the drug of choice in kids with ADHD and MDD?
wellbutrin
what are the 3 domains of autism spectrum?
- impairment in social interactions
- impairment in communications
- restricted pattern of interest and sterotypical behavior
when do you refer for autism spectrum?
- language delay after hearing evaluation
- lack of non-verbal communication (poor eye contact)
- lack of symbolic play
- stereotypical (repetitive) or self-stimulating behaviors
what are the medication options for ASD?
- SSRI
- antipsychotics (risperdal)
- stimulants (may worsen anxiety)
- namenda (NMDA antagonist)
what are the prodromal negative symptoms during adolescence for psychosis / schizophrenia?
- lack of motivation and socialization
- little verbal output
- flat or blunted affect
what are the positive symptoms of schizophrenia?
- auditory and visual hallucinations
- delusions of persecution
- possibly disorganized speech and behaviors
what is the effect of schizophrenia on ventricles?
enlarged lateral ventricles
