Rheumatic fever
A
- inflammatory disease
- due to untreated strep throat
- treated with penicillin
- increases the risk of valvular disease of the heart

Infective endocarditis
A
- affects the lining of the heart
- due to microorganisms
- fever hematuria, splenomegaly and petechiae
- murmurs are common

Pericarditis
A
- Inflammation of the pericardial sac
- comprises ventricular functioning due to decrease in space
- fever pain, friction rub
- pain intensifies with respirations, sneezing, coughing, and moving
- often confused for MI

Pericardial tamponade
A
Fluid in the pericardium increases and the amount if large enough to impair cardiac function
- jvd, edema, and hepatomegaly

What does morphine do as a treatment of CHF
A
It decreases work of breathing and decreases the metabolic demands for oxygen, which decreases respirations and allows for vasodialation
