Chest week 2 Flashcards
what is pneumomediastinum.
air within mediastinum
what is consolidation
replacement of air by fluid in lungs
often has presence of air bronchogram
dense abnormal opacity seen within lung field.
often associated with pneumonia.
radiographic appearance of atelectasis
mediastinal displacement, often with tracheal deviation
elevated diaphragm
crowded lungs
what is pulmonary infarction
- death to lung tissue (due to in adequate blood supply)
- area closest to dead tissue will collapse (due to inadequate supply)
what is pulmonary oedema
increase in fluid in extravascular tissue.
this is normally due to:
- increases capillary pressure
- head trauma/ presence of tumour
how does pulmonary oedema present on X-ray
- fluid collections spreads in fan like shape begining at hilum.
- dense abnormal opacity similar to consolidation
- may have heart enlargement
what happens when you have upper lung collapse and a lower lung collapse
upper lung will result in the hila and horizontal fissure elevating. tracheal deviation. hyper inflation of lower lung
lower lung collapse will result in the hila depressing
