Chest trauma Flashcards
What is radiographic appearance of Pneumothorax
air density is notifiable between visceral pleura and thorax wall. It is often identifiable by a white line in chest.
there will be no lung markings seen to the peripheral of the pneumothorax
No vascular and lung markings.
blackened out appearance of lung
why do we use both insp and exp for pneumothorax
small pneumothorax may not be seen in inspiration.
expiration used to show difference caused by pressure. during exp the mediastinum will migrate in the direction of the pathology.
pneumothorax can arise from the rupture of a subpleural bullae or just naturally
What is tension pneumothorax
Where air through a slit can only enter and not leave the lungs.
results in over inflation and shift of mediastinum/ vascular compromise.
What is flail Chest
Loss of stability in chest due to multiple rib fractures (rib will be # in two places results in floating rib movement)
What is the importance of a sternal #
close proximity to aorta, pulmonary viens, and possible cardiac trauma.
what clues does a chest x-ray show about
if # in first and second rib, maybe aortic tear
if caudal displacement with upper posterior ribs maybe thorasic artery injury
diaphragm injury.
occur from MVA chest trauma. occur on left side (right side protected by liver)
