What is Methemoglobinemia? What is its treatment?

A

Transition of ferrous to ferric which decreases hemoglobin’s affinity for oxygen. This will show in a patient’s oxygen saturation first. The treatment for this is methylene blue. This can be caused by some local anesthetics so the patients oxygen

What is the role of surfactant in lung alveoli?

A
  • Breaks down hydrogen bonds so the alveoli wont collapse.
  • Also breaks up surface tension.
