Anatomy lower limb Flashcards
Pectineus
Proximal attachment: superior ramus of pubis
Distal attachment: pectineal line of femur, just inferior to lesser
trochanter
Innervation: femoral nerve Main Action(s): flexes and adducts hip joint. Assist medial rotation
of hip joint “ kicking succor ball
Sartorius (tailor’s muscle)
Longest strap-like running obliquely crosses thigh
Proximal attachment: anterior superior iliac spine
Distal attachment: superior part of medial surface of tibia
Innervation: femoral nerve
Main Action(s): flexes, abducts , lateral rotation thigh at hip; flexes
leg at knee joint (cross-leg position)
“Checking the bottom of your foot”
Rectus femoris
Proximal attachment: anterior inferior iliac spine; above
acetabulum
Distal attachment: via quadriceps tendon at base of patella
Innervation: Femoral nerve
Main Action(s): extends knee joint; stabilize hip joint
Vastus lateralis
Proximal attachment: greater trochanter, lateral lip of linea aspera
Distal attachment: as for rectus femoris
Innervation: Femoral nerve
Main Action(s): extends knee joint
Vastus medialis
Proximal attachment: intertrochantric line; medial lip of linea
aspera
Distal attachment: as for rectus femoris
Innervation: Femoral nerve Main Action(s): extends knee joint
Vastus intermedius
Proximal attachment: anterior and lateral surfaces of shaft of
femur
Distal attachment: as for rectus femoris
Innervation: Femoral nerve Main Action(s): extends knee joint
Adductor longus
Proximal attachment: body of pubis inferior to pubic crest
Distal attachment: middle third of linea aspera of femur
Innervation: Obturator nerve
Main Action(s): adducts thigh (astride horse)
Adductor brevis
Proximal attachment: body and inferior ramus of pubis
Distal attachment: pectineal line and proximal linea aspera
Innervation: Obturator nerve
Main Action(s): adducts thigh
Adductor magnus
Proximal attachment: adductor part – inferior ramus of pubis and
ramus of ischium ; hamstring part – ischial tuberosity
Distal attachment: adductor part – gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera,
medial supracondylar line ; hamstring part – adductor tubercle of
femur
Innervation: adductor part – obturator nerve ; hamstring part –
sciatic nerve
Main Action(s): Adducts hip joint, flexion and extension (hamstring
part) of hip join
Gracilis
Proximal attachment: body and inferior ramus of pubis
Distal attachment: superior part of medial surface of tibia
Innervation: Obturator nerve
Main Action(s): Adducts hip joint, flexes leg
Obturator externus
Proximal attachment: margins of obturator foramen and obturator
membrane
Distal attachment: trochantric fossa of femur Innervation: Obturator nerve Main Action(s): lateral rotation of hip joint, stabilize hip joint
Most common fracture site of femur
neck during direct blow such as MVA or sports. Most common in old age due to osteoporosis
Osgood -Schlatter disease
Epiphysial # causing inflammation —>chronic recurrent pain
during adolescence
