Outline phobias
fear of an object, place, situation, feeling or animal
an anxiety disorder experienced by 15-20% of people
what are the emotional characteristics of Phobias
- high levels of anxiety= overly focused on phobia can’t relax
- fear from being exposed to object= fight or flight
what are the behavioural characteristics of Phobias
- avoidant behaviour of phobic object
- physical panic (shaking)
- failure to function e.g if an event had the phobia there they cannot go
what are the cognitive characteristics of Phobias
- irrational beliefs (over exaggeration of phobia)
- reduced cognitive capacity= cannot focus on tasks= job more difficult
outline depression
is a mood disorder affecting how feel, think and behave which can lead to emotional and physical problems
what are the emotional characteristics of depression
- sadness
- anger
- reduced self worth
what are the behavioural characteristics of depression
- loss of energy (in activities)
- social impairment
- weight changes
- sleeping issues (staying in bed or insomnia)
- poor hygiene
what are the cognitive characteristics of depression
- reduced concentration due to sleep
- thoughts of death
- poor decision making
- cognitive bias(focuses on the negative)
outline OCD
an anxiety disorder, with two main parts: obsessions and compulsions
what are the emotional characteristics of OCD
- extreme anxiety
- distress (not able to fully engage=low mood)
what are the behavioural characteristics of OCD
- compulsions= checking behaviour
- avoidance of triggering object(to stop obsessive thoughts)
- social impairment
what are the cognitive characteristics of OCD
- recurrence thought patterns
- self-generated recognitions
- realisation to inappropriateness (knowing thoughts aren’t socially accepted or normal)
