Chapters 4 And 5 Tissues Flashcards
Simple
Single layer, absorption and filtration
Epithelial tissue
Tissue with the prime function of covering
Cuboidal
Box-like cells
Columnar
Tall, focused on protection
Stratified
2 or more cell layers, focused on protection, found in highly abrasive areas (skin/mouth)
Squamous
Flattened, focused on filteation and absorbtion
Microvilli
Finger like extensions of plasma membeane
Basement membrane
Layer where tissues begin
Gland
One or more cells that make and secrete a particular product
Endocrine
Ductless glands that produce hormones
Ex: Amino acids, Proteins
Exocrine
Secrete their products onto body surface through ducts
Ex: Mucus,Sweat,Oil
Connective tissue
Not as regenerative as epithelial tissue encompasses catilage, bone, blood and connective tissue proper
Adipose tissue
Insulates, supports and protects, located under skin around kidneys and in breasts
Cartilage
Tough, more flexible than bone withstands tension and compression
Osseous tissue
More Collagen fibers, inorganic salts, blood vessels, and lacune than cartilage and heals faster forms blood cells and stores calcium and minerals
