Fibrous joints
Have no joint cavity most are immovable, ex: skull
Arthritis
Pain,stiffnes, and swelling
Cartilaginous Joints
Lack a joint cavity, united by cartilage
Some immoveable, some not, examples: vertebrae, pubic symphisis
Synovial joints
Joints in which the articulating bones are seperated by a fluid containing joint cavity
Flexion
Bending movement that decreases angle of joint
Extension
Reverse of flexion; joint angle is increased
Abduction
Movement away from midline
Adduction
Movement toward midline
Hinge joint
Allows motion in single plane
Ex: elbow, ankle
Pivot joint
Rotation of one bone around its own axis
Ex: atlus and axis
Ball and socket joint
Allows univeral movement among all planes and axes
Spain
Reinforcing ligaments are stretched or torn
Dislocation
Bones are out of allignment
