What is Alopathic medicine?
What is integrative medicine?
Medicine that is based on evidence-based measures: drugs and surgery
Integrative combines allopathic medicine with CAM practices that are safe and effective
Complementary & alternative medicine (CAM)

Energy-based theories: energy originating within the body of other sources

What is behavior change and relapse?
behaviour change is when you substitute bad habits for good ones by choosing a target and setting goals
Relapse is when you fall back into a previous state of your old routines

assessment of yourself on how you are doing with your problem
Commitment:
Accepting personal responsibility for change
Rewards:
giving yourself compliments and gifts upon reaching a goal
Countering:
substitute unhealthy behaviors for bad ones

Public- paid through taxes

TTM State of change
Pre-contemplation - not aware of the problem, unmotivated
contemplation - aware of the problem, lack of commitment to change
preparation
- intend to take action in the near future, starting to form an action plan
action - visible behaviour changes have occurred in the past 6 months
starting to see the benefits of change
maintenance - sustained changes for 6+ months
less temptation to turn back but may have relapses
termination
behaviour is deeply ingrained and has been maintained habits for 2-5 years
perminant!!
as your confidence rises, your temptation to turn back decreases.
what is Autonomy & authenticity
Autonomy is being self-directed and being able to act independently.
you have to have a self guided mindset
Authenticity- not afraid to be yourself
be conscious of who you are
Anxiety & panic
anxiety is a feeling of fear that is not directed towards any definite threat
panic is a syndrome of anxiety attacks accompanied by physical symptoms
Depression
a feeling of deep sadness, hopelessness and loss of interest
situational depression: caused by family loss or death
seasonal affective disorder - related to loss of light, and winter months
what is psychological health?
our capacity to think, feel, and behave to enjoy life and manage challenges.

what is bipolar disorder?
when someone who has mood swings of very high hand very low.
can have lots of energy at one time, but then have feelings of depression and sadness
Suicide
When someone causes their death by their own actions
24% of deaths aged 14-24 are caused by suicide
3rd leading cause of death in college-age students
OCD & PTSD
Obsessive-compulsive disorder - when someone has thoughts, routines, rituals that they depend on for security
PTSD- post-traumatic stress disorder: flashbacks, nightmares and visions caused by traumatic events.
