What is psychological immediacy?
being involved psychologically with another person’s message. Being intently aware of the issues they are discussing , and having the personal feeel you understand them. Active listening is important.
What is timely response?
Feedback that is proffered at the appropriate time, not too soon or too late. What situation needs immediate action?
What is Exchange Assessment?
The conscious of analysis of any impending message. How do you want to say something to someone? Rehearse in you mind what to say on the first date.
What is behavioral flexibility?
An essential characteristic of the communication organization. Each person must be prepared to adapt to changes in the environment of context of their communicative activity. How should you behave at a party where your boss is there?
What are the four aspects of social interaction?
Psychological immediacy, timely response, exchange assessment, behavioral flexibility
What are the 3 aspects of Strategic Communication Planning?
Recognize (that the following three are not steps or stages but different approaches), Contain, Cope, Construct
How can you contain a situation?
Minimize negative impact of a situation. (Close doors to media when something goes wrong in sports. This is essentially a sprinkler system when there is smoke or fire.
How can you cope with a situation?
Affected Members express concerns (help people deal emotionally, sit in a circle and talk about feelings, set up discussions)
How can you construct a situation?
New attitudes, values, behaviors, and or practices should emerge because they don’t want something to happen in the same way (New process in airports, tylenol murders)
What is the Strategic Communication Planning Continuum?
A continuum where no learning is on one side and learning is on the others. Contain has no learning, and construct has ultimate learning (recognize is at the top cope is inbetween no learning and learning)
