16
Q

What is the hepatic artery ?

A

carries oxygen and glucose to the liver

17
Q

What is the hepatic portal vein ?

A

carries digested food from the small intestine to the liver

18
Q

What is the hepatic vein ?

A

carries glucose and amino acids from the liver around the body.

19
Q

What is the renal artery ?

A

Carries blood rich in urea to the kidneys for excretion

20
Q

What is the renal vein ?

A

Carries purified blood from the kidney to the vena cava

21
Q

What does double circulation mean ?

A

one circulation system to and from the lungs and one circulation system from the heart to the body

22
Q

Describe the movement of blood during double circulation

A

Blood moves from the RV to the lungs the picks up oxygen. The oxygenated blood then moves to the LA to the LV where it is pumped around the body. Where it is again deoxygenated and pumped back to the RA

23
Q

How does exercise affect someone heart rate ?

A

When doing vigorous exercise their pulse rate will go up

24
Q

Why does our heart rate rise when we exercise ?

A

Because when we exercise we contract our muscles more vigorously. So more energy is needed so therefore more oxygen is needed at each muscle for respiration to occur. Also to supply the muscles with glucose.

25
Q

What affects does exercise have on your heart ?

A

It strengthens your heart muscle and temporarily increases your blood pressure

26
Q

What does the right atrium do ?

A

receives deoxygenated blood from the body

27
Q

What does the right ventricle do ?

A

pumps blood to the lungs

28
Q

What does the left atrium do ?

A

recives blood from the lungs

29
Q

What does the left ventricle do ?

A

pumps blood around the body (has very muscular walls)

30
Q

Is there valves in the heart ?

A

Yes to prevent backflow
