Define these gender terminologies
Biological sex: sex a person is born with which is usually male or female
Gender identity: ones basic and private sense of being male or female or transgender. It relates to cultural customs and social roles ascribed to men and women
Sexual orientation: describes who you are sexually attracted to. Homosexual, heterosexual or bisexual, asexuality
Transgender: describes person whose gender identity is different from the biological sex.
Men who have sex with men are biological male men who have sex with other biological male men
Women who have sex with women are women who engage in sexual activity with other women but don’t identify as lesbian or bisexual.
Drug use intervention programs must contain what
Primary focus on prevention of drug use
Secondary focus on rehabilitation
Preventative focus aimed at preventing HIV transmission
What is the most common way of HIV transmission
Sexual intercourse or through contact with semen cervical or vaginal fluids or blood that is infected
It can be transferred from infected person to sexual partner through male-male or female-male and less in female-male
What is meant by safer sex practices
It means sexual activities that prevent one partner’s semen blood vaginal fluids from coming into contact with the other partner’s mouth anus penis or vagina.
Discuss barrier method to prevent HIV transmission
These include male and female condoms.
Male condom:
Placed over glans and shaft of penis and are an effective way to reduce HIV transmission.
Nitrile condoms are thinner and stronger, don’t fit as tightly do not deteriorate and increase sensitivity than latex condoms which uses water based lubricant and nitrile using oil based lubricant.
Discuss barrier method to prevent HIV transmission
The female condom:
Is a strong soft sheath that is pouch shaped and is approx same length as male condom but wider which is inserted into the vagina before sex.
One type is made from synthetic materials called nitrile polymer which can be used with water and oil based lubricant
Second type made from latex that uses only water based lubricant.
