Chapter 8 - Attitude Indicator Flashcards
What is the purpose of the AI? and how are they driven?
The purpose of the AI is to display pitch and roll information.
Air or electrically driven
Detail the attitude indicator markings?
How many degrees of freedom does an AI have?
Two degrees of freedom
What are the names for classic AIs?
Air Driven or Classic Artificial Horizon
What is a Pendulous Vane?
The pendulous vanes are part of the pendulous unit so they act to keep the rotor axis vertical after the vacuum is applied.
If the axis is displaced from the vertical by turbulence or any topple, the vanes sense gravity and precess the axis towards its correct vertical alignment.
Pendulous Vanes are in….?
Pairs
How is topple of an AI dealt with?
As we accelerate the pendulous vanes cause…?
Precession and a false indication of climb. Pitch up error.
As we decelerate with an Air driven AI what error does it cause?
Pitch down error.
alongside pitch error, what other error happens during acceleration with an air driven AI?
Roll error.
Detail the Acceleration Errors with an Air AI
Pendulous Vanes cause Pitch Error
Rotor housing causes Roll error
Accelerate - Up and Right
Decelerate - Down and Left
Give a summary of AI turning errors
0 Deg - 360 Deg
Pitch - COOOC
Bank - CUCOC
What causes turn errors in an Air Driven AI?
Due to the complex interaction of forces that take place in the turn
What is an ADI?
Attitude and Direction Indicator (ADI)
What are the requirements for Standby AI?
- Its own gyro
- Its own power supply
