What is AVEGA Agahozo?
An organization of women who have survived the horrors of the Rwandan Civil war

The Hutus (85%) and the Tutsis (15%)
Who was of a higher social class in Rwanda before the war?
The Tutsis because they held positions of power. The Hutus were labourers. But they coexisted

What did the Germans do when they claimed Rwanda?
They reinforced the social distinctions by putting the Tutsis in high colonial power
What did the Belgians do when they gained control of Rwanda?
They continued to give Tutsis higher power and they made it even worse by forcing citizens to carry cards identifying who they were

A civil conflict broke out between the Hutus and the Tutsis
What caused the Rwandan genocide?
A plane carrying the Rwandan president was shot down and the government blamed the Tutsis
What ended the Rwandan genocide?
When RPF forces captured the capital city and established a multi-ethnic government
Why did the UN try not to defend any group in Rwanda?
Becuase they did not want to look as if they were taking sides
Why did Rwanda set up Gacaca courts?
Becuase the UN was attempting to try everybody involved in the Genocide but it was taking too long
