Chapter 7 Part 2 (Nervous System) Flashcards
What are the 3 meningeal layers superficial to deep?
- Pia matter
- Arachnoid
- Dura
Arachnoid meningeal layer function?
Cushions the brain
Dura meningeal layer function?
Double layered membrane that surrounds the brain
Pia meningeal layer function
Aids in the production of cerebrospinal fluid
What is a concussion?
brain injury with reversible damage
What is a contusion?
Brian injury with irreversible damage
how many spinal nerves do we have?
31
What does the PNS consist of?
Nerves and scattered ganglia
Olfactory nerve number and function.
Nerve 1, Carries impulses for the sense of smell
Optic nerve number and function.
Nerve 2, Carries impulses for vision
Oculomotor nerve number and function.
Nerve 3, Supplies motor fibers to muscles
Trochlear nerve number and function.
Nerve 4, Supplies motor fibers to the superior oblique muscle
Trigeminal nerve number and function.
Nerve 5, Conducts sensory impulses from skin, face and nose, mouth and cornea.
Abducens nerve number and function.
Nerve 6, Supplies motor fibers to the lateral rectus muscle
Facial nerve number and function.
Nerve 7, Activates facial expression muscles and the lacrimal and salivary glands. Carries impulses from tastebuds to anterior tongue.
