Why is tobacco smoke thought to be the causal mechanism in lung cancer?
The two were linked together (correlation) and then scientists showed there was a biological process that caused the increase in lung cancer among smokers.
What is a tumour?
A mass of abnormally growing cells.
Which cancer can be caused by UV light?
Skin cancer.
Name the three main components of tobacco smoke that cause health problems.
Nicotine, carbon dioxide, tar.
What does COPD stand for?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
What is one high risk factor for type 2 diabetes?
Obesity.
Give a reason why the heart is fitter if you exercise regularly.
It has a better blood supply.
Why are pregnant women advised not to drink alcohol?
The alcohol damages the fetus, causing fetal alcohol syndrome.
