Chapter 7 - Lesson 3 Flashcards
Climate describes
the weather at a certain place over time
Some climates are
- hot and dry
- cold and dry
- warm and riny
A place’s climate depends on
where it is on Earth
An axis is
a straight line through the center
Earth’s axis is not straight, it is
tilted
Because of the Earth’s shape and it’s tilted axis,
it helps cause climate changes
When the Sun’s rays hit an area straight on, it is
warmer
When the sun’s rays are spread out,
the climate is colder in those places
What else can affect climates?
Oceans and Mountains
Place near the ocean have
mild climates. The Ocean keeps air temperature from being too hot or cold.
As you go up a mountain,
the temperature gets colder. How high a place is affects its climates
How else can mountains affect climates?
They force the air upwards. The rising air cools and forms clouds. Rain falls on the ocean side of the mountains.
What happens to the opposite side of a mountain?
It gets dry air
Seasons are
times of the year with certain types of weather patterns
What is the warmest season?
Summer
