Chapter 7 Flashcards
Green house effect
Transmissions or heat that comes from agriculture and animals when they release gases
Example when heat is trapped in your car and when you open your car the gas is released into the air
NCAR
Green computing
the practice of using computing resources efficiently while reducing the use of hazardous materials, maximizing energy efficiency, promoting the recyclability of defunct products, and reducing factory waste during the computers manufacturer process
CIO
makes the decision on what computer, software, and we are up to date with electronics (computers), contributes to the decision if we should switch to eco friendly software
Green PC
Focuses on more energy efficient in a business use less power sleep when not being used, are energy efficient, and recyclable
energy star
Volunteering labeling program that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, created around 1992
What does the energy star program ask computer businesses like Dell, HP, and Max to focus on?
Asks them to focus energy efficiency like ensuring when computers arent being used they go into sleep mode or power off
80 plus standard
Means when its full in power it’ll convert into 80 plus power which makes it more energy efficient
green computing business plan
Working from home which reduces carbon footprint from driving, reduce the time you have your lights on in your office, decrease paper usage, dispose of products and throw away into the trash or recycling bins.
Materials selection
informs the consumer of the percentage of recycled plastics and offers the percentage of renewable plastic material content
EPEAT
Online school that helps purchase different types of eco friendly devices
Separated into different levels bronze fits all requirements silver fits some, created in 2006 managed by GEC (Global Economics Council)
Design for end of life
means that computer manufacturers as well as all electronics manufacturers, inform their consumers about the special handling needs for disposing of their product when it is no longer useful
Product longevity/ life cycle extension
encourages manufacturers to make extended warranties available to their consumers so their products last longer
End of life management
asks manufacturers to make provisions to take their product back at the end of the products life cycle
