Chapter 6 pt.2 Flashcards
Light Microscope
passes light through specimen
Electron Microscope
beam of electrons pass through specimen, for organelle study
Scanning Electron Microscope
Sees detailed topography
Transmission Electron Microscope
Sees the internal structure of cells
What does the inner membrane do to Mitochondrion?
It splits into two internal compartments
What is the first compartment of mitochondrion?
Intermembrane Space; the reguon between inner and outer membranes
What is the second compartment of Mitochondrion?
Mitochondrial Matrix; enclosed by the inner membrane, contains enzymes and mRNA and ribosomes
What are interconnected sacs in Chloroplasts called?
Thylakoids
What are the stacks in a thylakoid called?
Granum
What is the fluid outside of the thylakoids called?
Stroma
What is microtubules?
hollow rods from globular proteins called tubulins; helps with DNA
What does the Microtubules do?
shapes and supports the cell, also tracks organelles with motor proteins
What are Microfilaments?
thin solid rods built from molecules of actin (globular protein)
What do Microfilaments do?
helps with muscle contraction and cytoplasm streaming
Which part of the cytoskeleton is only found in some animal cells and have alot of cytoskeletal element
Intermediate Filaments
