Chapter 6-Adjectives Flashcards
What is an adjective?
An adjective is a description about a noun that helps make your writing more interesting. An adjective describes a noun.
What do Adjectives tell us about a noun?
Adjectives tell us:
- How many of them there are:’There were two goats on the farm.’
- How much of it there is:’You need to pour a third of the mix in the tin.’
- What kind of noun it is:’It was a small, blue pebble.’
- Highlight which one or whose it is:’That is her pen.’
How Adjectives Compare?
Adjectives are also useful for making comparisons between things.
When we compare 2 things we add er to the adjective. Eg: ‘He had a smallER piece of pizza.’
When comparing 3+ things we add est. Eg ‘He had the smallest piece of pizza.’
When an adjective has 2+ syllables we add more or most. We add more for comparative Eg: ‘It was more impressive.’ You use most for superlative Eg: ‘It was the most impressive performance.’
