Chapter 5- The Respiratory And Breathing System Flashcards
Aerobic respiration
-needs oxygen and glucose to release energy
Word equation for aerobic respiration
Glucose+oxygen ➡️ energy + carbon dioxide + water vapour
Respiration-
The release of energy from food
Test for Co2
•Limewater-Turns milky colour if carbon dioxide is present
Test for water
Cobalt chloride goes from blue to pink if H2O is present
What are the cells’ part in respiration?
- take in oxygen
- release Co2 and H2O into bloodstream
- blood goes to lungs
- blood swaps Co2 and H2O for more oxygen
Order of body parts in respiration
Nose/Mouth ➡️ Trachea➡️ Bronchus ➡️ Bronchioles ➡️ Alveoli
What is the name of the muscle underneath the lungs?
The diaphragm
What is the name of the muscle surrounding he lungs?
Intercostilé muscles
What is the trachea surrounded by
Cartilage
Function of bronchus
- carries air from trachea to lungs
- subdivide into bronchioles
Bronchioles function
Bring air form the bronchi to the alveoli
Alveoli function
(millions of tiny air sacs, have thin lining, surrounded by capillaries)
Allows Gas exchange
- Alveolus gives oxygen to blood
- takes Co2 and H20 and release it
Diaphragm and intercostal muscles function
Move air in lungs
Nose function
Cleans ,
Warms,
Moistens air
