What is parliamentary privilege?
Legal immunity for MPs (allowed them to speak freely in court).
Why did James want a union between England and Scotland?
It would create security and peace.

1610 - James would give up his feudal rights in return for money from parliament to help pay off debt.

- Parliament very anti-catholic so disapproved of Spanish Match - petition against it lead to P being dissolved James wanted match to end thirty years war.

- 5 people imprisoned for not paying the forced loan.
- Ruled anyone that didn’t pay could be imprisoned without trial.
- James changed this to mean anyone could be imprisoned without trial for any reason.
- Led to petition of right.
