small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, performance goals and approach for which they hold themselves mutually acountible.
What are the stages of group and team development?
Stage 1, Forming: uncertainty and anxiety
Stage 2, Storming: intra-group conflict
Stage 3, Norming: close relationships and cohesiveness
Stage 4, Performing: The stage when the group is fully functional
Stage 5, Adjourning: Final Stage, concern for wrapping up activities
What is the first phase of the Punctuated Equilibrium Model?
- The first meeting sets the groups direction
- first phase is one of inertia
What is the transition phase of the Punctuated Equilibrium Model?
- takes place at the end of first phase/ when group has used half of its allotted time
- transition initiates major change
What is the second phase of the Punctuated Equilibrium Model?
- Second phase of inertia follows the transition
- Last meeting is characterized by markedly accelerated activity
Why is context important for effective teams?
Resources, group leadership/ structure, trust levels and composition(skills, personality, roles, diversity, size and members preference for teamwork) are all important for effective teams.
why is having Conscientious people important?
helps team preform because they sense when support is needed and help back members up
Define Open people important?
They communicate better which leads to more creativity and innovation

Making sure goals are met/ completed
Define Maintenance Goals
Maintain relations between group members
What processes are important for effective teams?
Common purpose, specific goals, team efficacy, mental models, managed levels of conflict, accountability
Define Virtual team
rarely face to face interaction, use technology to tie together physically separated people in order to achieve a common goal.
How to create an effective virtual team?
- Establish trust among members - share info with each other
- Closely monitor team progress
- Efforts and products of the virtual team are publicized throughout the organization
When is incorporating a team the correct decision?
- If the work can be done better by more than one person
- If the members of the group are interdependent
- If the work creates a common purpose or set of goals for the people in the group that is more than the sum of the individual goals
