What is Perception?
The process by which individuals select, organize and interpret their sensory impressions in order to give meaning to their environment
What factors influence Perception?
The target, the perceiver and the context
What is Attribution Theory?
Its when individuals observe behaviour and decide whether it was internally or externally caused.
Fundamental Attribution Error - tendency to underestimate external factors and overestimate internal factors
Self Serving Bias - Contributing failures with external factor and success with internal factors
What is Selective Perception?
People selectively interpret what they see based on their beliefs
What is the Halo Effect?
Reaching a conclusion about someone based off of one trait
What is Projection?
Attributing one’s own characteristics to other people
What is Stereotyping?
Judging someone based off of your perception of a group to which that person belongs
Define Personality
Stable patterns of behaviour and consistent internal states that determine how an individual reacts and interacts with others.
What is the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator)
Personality test to determine how people usually act or feel in particular situations.
Classifications are Extroverted, Introverted, Sensing, Intuitive, Thinking, Feeling, Judging, Perceptive.
What are the components of the Big Five Model?
Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability, Openness to Experience
What is EI?
Emotional Intelligence. A gauge of self awareness, understanding others emotions and emotional cues.
Useful for workplace but is skepticism relating to it.
What are negative workplace emotions?
Production: leaving early, intentionally working slowly
Property: Stealing, Sabotage
Political: Gossiping, blaming coworkers
Personal Aggression: Sexual harassment, verbal abuse
