to be a good leader you need to have intelligence, initiative, self-confidence, emotional stability, willingness to take risks
define authoritarian/autocratic
leader: give direction, make final decisions, bears most of the responsibility
define democratic
leader: shares planning, decision making, and responsibility
advantages: fosters motivation and creativity
laissez-faire
leader: give followers control of decision making
disadvantages: usually leads to inefficient work
emotional intelligence theory
leaders have the ability to manage their emotions as well as the emotions of their followers
situational theory
leader: understands different situations require different styles of leadership

transformational theory
leader: aspire to meet self-actualization needs of their followers, they engage and inspire others
transactional theory
assume that people are motivated by reward and punishment
scientific management
