When does Ischemic Strokes occur?
When blood flow to the brain is stopped by a blockage in the carotid artery.
Ischemic Stroke is a result from what?
From the build up of plaque inside the artery, when a clot forms in the artery and blocks it, or when a blood clot travels from another part of the body.
Hemorrhagic Strokes is a result form what?
From bleeding inside the brain either from a ruptured brain aneurysm or when a weakened blood vessel leaks.
What does blood from Hemorrhagic Stroke creates around the brain?
Swelling and pressure, damaging tissue in the brain.
How to recognize the symptoms of a stroke?
BE FAST formula.
What does B in BE FAST stands for?
Balance- loss of balance or difficult walking.
What does E in BE FAST stands for?
Eyes- Loss of vision in one eye.
What does F in BE FAST stands for?
Face- Facial droop (uneven smile) or numbness on one side.
What does A in BE FAST stands for?
Arm and leg- weakness or numbness on one side.
What does S in BE FAST stands for?
Speech- Slurred Speech.
What does T in BE FAST stands for?
Time- Time to get help.
What would be the treatment for a Stroke?
Thrombolytics can rapidly dissolve blood colts when administered within hours of the start of symptoms.
When is rehabilitaion an important part of the recovery process?
When the brain tissue is damaged during a stroke.
What does Physical therapy do after a stroke?
Regain as much movement as possible.
What does occupational therapy do after a stroke?
With self-care and activities of daily living.
