chapter 4 arthrokinematics Flashcards
Voluntary Motion (Physiologic, Classic)
Axial Motion
Under our voluntary control
Resistance at the end of range is called end feel
Accessory Motion
Accompanies voluntary motion but not in our control – we can not voluntarily/actively cause accessory motions
Traction
May also be called distraction or tension or tensile
Outside force pulls joint surfaces away from each other
compression
External force pushes joint surfaces closer together
shear
Forces occur parallel to surface
Glide motion at joint
Causes bone ends to move parallel to and in opposite direction from each other
rotary
Twisting motion
Combination of compression & shear
what are the 4 types of joint forces
traction, rotary, shear, compression
spin joint
Same point on each surface remains in contact with each other
slide joint
Motion is linear
Surfaces are congruent (//)
Same point on one surface comes into contact with new points on the opposing surface
what are the types of arthokinematics ?
Roll
Glide or slide
Spin
Combination of roll, glide & spin
the types of joints surfaces
Concave
Convex
Sellar
what does arthokinematics mean?
how joint surfaces move on each other during joint motion
what does Osteokinematic motion mean
as one bone moving on another, causing such motions as flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, or rotation.
when rolling what is the surfaces?
incongruent
what are the terms of sliding motion of the joint?
Direction depends on whether the moving surface is concave or convex.,
Motion is linear,
Surfaces are congruent (//)
what does closed packed mean and the advantage?
when the joint surfaces are most congruent and more stability
what does open pack mean
the joint surfaces are more laxity and increased ligaments also a decreased of congruceny
what does a firm end feel mean
tissues that limit motion such as knee extension when a normal length of hamstring are present
hard end feel mean
bone contacting to other bone such as the olecranon fossa touches the humerus olecranon fossa
the rules of concave/convex
a concave joint on a convex surface will glide same direction
a convex joint on a concave surfaces will glide opposite
what do fibrous cartilage mean
they Are joined by ligament, capsule, and interosseous membrane
cartilaginous joint function?
act as shock absorber define as hyaline or fibrocartilage
sprains define
tear of ligaments or capsules
strain define
tear of muscles
