Intermediate disturbance hypothesis
regular disturbances, actally contribute to biodiversity because different species make use of different habitats, and periodic distrubances guarantee that there will always be habitat at varying stages of recovery.
Intertidal zone
the area between the land and sea that is covered by water at high tide and uncovered at low tide.
Limnetic zone
open surface waters in a lake, away from the shore. The vegetation of the littoral zone surrounds this expanse of open water and it is above the profundal zone.
