What is Islam?
A theisitic worldview centered on the life of the prophet Muhammad that derives its understanding of the world through the teachings of the Quran, Hadith, and Sunnah.
What are Moderates (or Moderate Muslims)?
They wish to engage in Muslim practices, raise their families acording to Muslim traditions and are more likely to attend worship services than radical Muslims and are not less devote than radical Muslims.
What is the key difference between moderate and radical Muslims?
The radical muslims believe that the West threatens and attempts to control their ways of life.
What is an Islamist?
A Muslim who embraces the full application of sharia law and who views jihad as a call to conquer nonbeliving nations.
What is Shariah law?
The moral code of Islam outlined in the Quran. Includes the following laws:
1. Slavery
2. Advocating physical abuse of wives
3. Demanding heavy taxation of Christians and Jews living in Muslim lands
4. Calls for the killing of Muslims who convert to another faith
What is a Jihadi?
an Islamist who embraces the use of terrorism in pursuit of Jihad.
What is jihad?
The arabic word for “struggle”
What does Islam mean?
“submission”
What is a Muslim?
“one who submits” to Allah and the principles of ummah
What is Ummah?
the binding worldwide community of Muslims
Who is Muhammad?
The founder of Islam
What is Mecca?
Islam’s most holy city
What is the Quran?
the central holy book of Islam
What is Sunni Islam?
The largest branch of Islam, believes, Muhammad’s successor should be chosen by a consensus of Muslims.
What is Shitte Islam (Shia Islam)?
The second largest branch of Islam, believes Muhammad’s sucessor should be someone from his bloodline
