Chapter 3 Flashcards
CORRELATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY VS. EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY
Two distinct disciplines that characterized the field of scientific psychology according to Cronbach
Correlational psychology
measures how the variations between individuals and groups correlate with performance in other domains
-IQ test: which kid goes to a classroom for special education or go to a school
Experimental psychology
control situational variables to test hypotheses to make confident statements about causation - doing a reading intervention and seeing which method works for them
Aptitude-by-treatment
psychologists consider how aptitudes might interact with a certain aspect of treatment to moderate the effects.
Three kids are reading at the same level…
it’s easy to put them in a group, however, the causes of why they’re reading behind are all very different.
Never refer to a child as…
a tier
Tier 3
-very formal, goes with them from class to class
ex: if the child repeatedly goes to the principle’s office
Tier 3
school psychology usually works with these tiers
WHAT IF THE ACTUAL PERCENTAGES ARE DIFFERENT?
Doesn’t always look like this
-5% (smallest triangle)
-15% (middle tier)
-80% (biggest tier)
